"When did you change, Donil? Is it my fault?" she muttered, her fingers absently stroking the railing. Had all the worry and constant attempts to save her from Yon changed Donil that drastically?She sat down on the nearest chair and rubbed at her aching temple. The baby chose that moment to kick hard and she grunted. Smiling, she stroked the side where her child rested."It's alright, Little One. I promise that we will figure everything out before you are born. I want you to be born free of all this insanity."::You can attain your goal but it will require sacrifice on your part.::Laylah surged to her feet, her gaze narrowing as she searched for the speaker. ::I'm wounded that you forgot me so soon.::She frowned. ::Who are you?::::My lady, turn around and see.::Laylah didn't contemplate disobeying as her curiosity got the best of her and she turned. The frown left her face to be replaced by a warm smile."Maddox! When did you get here?" She did indeed know her visitor. She remembered Maddox who was Beta to Alpha Solon from the Cali Territory."I have been around for a few days. This is the first chance I had to catch you alone."She grimaced. "Yeah, well everyone is understandably tense. Yon and my father are hunting us and every precaution is being taken to keep this place secure." She paused and grinned. "I don't think they'll be thrilled to know that you've been around for days and no one caught your scent."Maddox smiled. "My lady, it is one of my few talents that cannot be duplicated. I blend in well, when the need arises."She laughed, she couldn't help it. Much of her stress was fading the longer she was in Maddox's presence. "I shall remember that. What brings you here?""You.""Me? I don't understand.""Yes, my lady, you. My Alpha extended you an invitation several months ago to come visit us in Cali."Laylah sucked in a breath as an idea began to form. This was the perfect solution to the current situation.
